what is the differance between modern art and ... ?

Hai Biggart: Modern art vs contemporary art probably uses the word "modern" to denote the style of modernism, which spanned roughly from the early 1900's to the 60's (ish, different styles took longer to come around...) Contemporary is current art (or post-modernism, but there is some debate about is post-modernism is still happening.)

Lynn Hollars: Modern art refers to art done from the 1900s on forward. whereas contemporary art refers to art done by artist that are still alive.
