Donita Desjardin: It would be incredibly hard to sink an aircraft carrier. They are compartmentalized and have so many other safety features that the chances of sinking one with anything less than a nuclear strike would be very slim. It would be extremely difficult to even get a aircraft carrying an Exocet missile within its effective range, the patrol fighters would be on the enemy aircraft like a pitbull on a pork chop.Us aircraft carriers are VERY well protected, and that includes attack submarines patrolling nearby. They are a very large target, and would be easily hit if it weren't for the covering ships. An carrier would have to take several hits, in several different places at the same time bfore it would be damaged enough to sink....Show more
Ron Keliipio: I work where the carriers are built and if i remember correctly, that question is classified. Exactly what it would take to sink a carrier will never be made known. However Sir Studley is correct in that ! even getting near a carrier would be a suicide mission.
