how to hook up car subwoofer to home theater?

Linwood Mccory: It doesn't make any sense to use a car audio amplifier in the house. If you want to DIY a subwoofer use a proper plate amplifier and not a car amplifier. http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults... These amplifiers are designed for home theatre subwoofers and they run on 120 VAC not 12 VDC.Also, I would not use a car audio woofer. These are not really designed for home applications. The suspension is too stiff. This is done to enable them to have a very small Vas so they can work in small boxes. For home audio you want a larger Vas (looser suspension). Parts Express has a variety of woofers that will work much better for home audio than car woofers.mk...Show more

Cherlyn Tefera: As mentioned already, buying a car sub and using a car amp in your home theater is not only not ideal, but you are asking for problems. Plate amps are relatively cheap and are designed for home theater use. As for connecting to your amplifier, you should be! using a subwoofer out jack, so it shouldn't matter. Spend a few bucks more and do it right and just buy even a modestly sized/powered home theater sub if you are on a budget. It isn't about flabby/booming bass all of the time, it should be about getting quality LFE that can still hit you in the chest without being a distorted mess.Parts Express has some great options for a DIYer....Show more
