Sammie Bocanegra: Video games are good for reflexes, stress, and to escape the stress of reality, and some are good for being fit like Dance Dance Revolution or pretty much anything for the Nintendo Wii. It is a little time wasting, but all the talk about people reenacting the games is people that games are not meant to be played by like little kids playing M rated games, due too irresposible parents.
Willetta Munhall: The good video games are the ones that make you think. ;) It never hurts to use our brains a bit for fun. Sometimes it can actually better problem solving skills. There are also games like DDR that actually help us get into shape if we otherwise have difficulties with getting motivated to exercise (I did it everyday and I was in the best shape I'd ever been in for a long time). I like mindless games every now and then too. It gives me a break from normal life. Escapism is a big thing in video games. I love the fact that I can be something I'll never b! e able to be in real life, and I can go places I never imagined I'd get to go to. It's also a nostalgic thing for me too when I'm playing games I played as a child. It just makes me happy. =) I'm not really sure if it does anything for society as a whole as much as it does for an individual. Video games are just another form of entertainment. But I prefer them to movies and other things of the sort. It's just another thing some of us have in common. Video games have a subculture all their own....Show more
Cassey Hollinghurst: Video games are a monumental waste of time, still, there's nothing else I'd rather be doing.
Lia Argall: They enrich our lives the same way TV does: minimally, in the form of escapism and casual entertainment. But like any form of recreation, overdoing it is bad. I go through periods of playing lots of games, then after a while I try to cut down because I realise I'm not reading anymore. I don't really play for a while, then I have another ! binge. And so it goes....Show more
Daria Verfaillie: It ! really depends on who is playing them. Some people might use them to waste time, or to relieve stress, or to take out anger, or just to entertain the same way movies, tv and books do. Whereas some people might find inspiration from certain games. Whether that is good inspiration (inventions, ideologies, concepts, anything good) or bad inspiration (the many massacres and murders and cases of violence attributed to video games). They give people jobs and income, they circulate money throughout the economy. They can hone peoples reflexes, multitasking, logical thinking, lateral thinking, problem solving, and many more things. The video game industry has provided leaps and bounds in the fields of animation and computer generated images. The best of games provide the graphics of a movie, the story and characters of a novel, and they provide interactivity and more length than a movie....Show more
Sherrill Botting: Video games is a pleasantry invented to entertain. It's not a ! good or bad thing unless the person becomes addicted to doing nothing but playing the games. Then it can be bad for their health and social life.As far as enriching and bettering, no. It's just a time waster.
Eleni Mccier: It's the same thing as listening to music to escape reality. Playing video games allows you to be anyone you want to be. Want to fly? done. Want to rule the world? easy. Want to battle aliens for galactic dominance? done and done. And as for those who would say "video games make people violent when they grow up" just think about it. The adult generation right now played mario growing up. Do they go around jumping on peoples heads and climbing through pipes?
Cristopher Gavalis: for me its a place to escape, i have no friends. i hate who i am, i hate that my life is boring. with games you get to experience exitement and be someone else or do something amazing, you can forget about your bleak, depressing life for hours
