Does anyone know how to cook Alpaca shoulder steaks?

Karl Samiec: cook them like you cook steak, marinade first.

Barton Sease: I am a former chef and like all meats for any animal that is a shoulder cut, it needs long slow cooking, I have never had Alpaca. I once had Yak, Musk Ox and Moose.I would imagine it to be not much different, marinaing is fine, something with veggies, wine, dark beer or vinegar and then browned in a pan, then either slow cooked in the oven like a beef blade or chuck roast or in a crockpot, like a pot roast, I would use lots of carrots, onions, celery, potatos for the last 30 minutes in the oven or in the beginning if you use a crockpot. It may be a bit strong, so be prepared if you have never had lamb shoulder or a wild game roast for bit of a taste experience, a bit of tomato paste or sauce in the gravy, mushrooms or a dash of sugar may be needed to balance the flavours out....Show more
