Jeremy Donohue: Depending on the kind of game, many things. Pretty much everything is good for hand-eye coordination, surgeons in particular benifit from this kind of stuff. Strategy games, real time and turn based, help with planning and multitasking. First person shooters help with reaction time and team work(and while they don't improve actual shooting skills, it's still good to play for jobs that require shooting, as you will quickly be able to tell friend from foe, find good cover, etc). RPGs and other things with a lot of story-telling, particularly the older ones before everything was voiced out, are really good for developing reading, especially for those kids that can't pay attention to long books. Not to mention that there are simulators for pretty much everything, so whatever you can find a simulator for. That said, You can't become anything purely with experience gained from video games, save for maybe a beta-tester, and even then you need to know how to be ve! ry descriptive and and specific, which pretty much no game helps you with....Show more
Scot Rotruck: It doesn't add up how video games are supposed to both desensitise and overstimulate. The naysayers aren't making sense. There really isn't a situation in which a VG provides better social interaction than (for instance) playing football, and the hand-eye coordination argument falls down for the same reason.I think that the only thing that violent VGs do is provide a way to shile away some hours. The same is true of non-violent videogames....Show more
Tory Clapper: I think video games have both positive and negative effect. There are some games such as violent games that have adverse effect on our mind. But there are some games that help in boosting IQ. One of them is words with friends. This game help in enhancing vocabulary. For such games you can visithttp://wordswithfriends.net/
Hugo Pittari: Some say video games desensitize people to accept death, whi! le at the same time stimulating them with "the thrill of killi! ng"
Wilbert Shellgren: Blaming video games is just another excuse.I like to get stoned and junk out on video games.Other people like to get drunk and drive.
Babette Deloe: i play video games and nuthing went rong
Scot Rotruck: if you need proof look at the people who create them and play them the majority of the time..(i'm not really talking about recreational players or little kids playing a sports or racing game)many video game players...such as myself (although I'm the PC gamer type)play real time strategy or role playing games...they call for a lot of mental stimulation and strategy...it's like playing chess all the time. They provide a social element and it's a good way to waste time without spending money.I think it's up to the parent (for a kid who plays a lot) to differentiate between real and make believe.if a kid is too into a game and making it his/her reality i believe that the parent/s are lacking educating and parenting their child.I'm perso! nally sick of entertainment industries music/movies/games editing and infringing on creative freedoms because parents don't teach their kids the right morals in the first place.I'm not a crazy violent person absorbed by alter realities ...and i've played a lot of games my whole life..difference is i had a loving mother and a concept of real and fake...along with a conscience.thats just my personal opinion....Show more
Mohamed Szollosi: a bit of both but it has been proven that video games improve eye hand coordination
